Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the alternatives are limited as you shall not have root access to the web server, so you may only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. These are all actions that are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
In case you have a shared hosting account with our company and you want to deal with your content remotely through SSH, you may obtain SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not provide this feature by default, you can easily add it with a couple of clicks via the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You may also choose what password you would want to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared many Help articles where you may find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. Moreover, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account using SSH irrespective of which plan you choose when you sign up. With some packages, the function is offered by default, and with others, it may be added as and additional upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll discover the required login info in the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You may select the password which you'll use and if you want to, you could change it on a regular basis with several clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands that you may use in advance, as we've listed them all alongside examples of how they are used in order to carry out a certain task. The moment SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is allowed, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
If you purchase a new VPS server from our company, it will feature full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything using an SSH console. The feature comes by default with all packages, so you shall not have to allow or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up soon after you purchase it and as soon as you receive the Welcome e mail with the login details, you could connect using the server’s primary IP address and start working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there will be no restrictions with regards to the commands that you can use. You'll have full root access, so you can install and run any application that can work on a Linux hosting server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software running on it.
